Conspiracy theories, it doesn’t matter what the situation is, they always seem to follow. And although most of them prove to be wrong or unproven, there are always a select few of you who still like to think, what if? And we are no different.
But cartoon and conspiracy theories, should they be in the same sentence? Well, over the years some of you have created conspiracy theories about certain cartoons and after thinking about some of them, some actually fit the bill…kind of.
Yeah, some of the following theories range from the outlandish to the bizarre, but they are fun to speculate about. After all, some cartoons are disturbing in their own way as most cartoon logic doesn’t make sense. So why can’t their conspiracy theory counterparts make sense as well?
10. Pokémon Theory: Ash is in a Comma
The Theory: Ash was hit by lightning a few episodes in. After this point everything was played out in Ash’s mind.
The Evidence: If you have watched the cartoon you will know that Ash never seems to age, he is always wearing the same clothes, every town has the same Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny, etc. This would make the theory plausible. But the world of Pokémon still would exist outside of Ash’s conscious, so would the theory make sense.

9. Hey Arnold! Grandparents Theory
The Theory: Arnold’s Grandparents are in fact his parents
The Evidence: As Arnold’s grandparents, Gertie and Phil, gave birth to Arnold at such an old age they left Arnold with a few psychological conditions – which lead to him creating his own friends and sometimes leading him to seeing things that aren’t real. His football-shaped head is due to hydrocephalus which is also another defect of abnormalities Arnold suffers from due to his parents conceiving him at such an old age.
As cartoon conspiracy theories go we believe this one isn’t really plausible. Plus some are saying there is evidence of Arnold’s real parents in episode. Don’t tell us, that’s a conspiracy theory too?
8. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theory: Will is Really Dead
The Theory: Will is in fact dead and was murdered on the basketball court in West Philly. The show is then based on Will living in heaven with his family in a mansion so he can work out his issues and hardships.
The Evidence: The intro song mentions “If anything I could say that this cab was rare” which refers to God taking him to heaven. He sees his parents on occasions which may suggest they are in fact visiting his grave. And: “Bel-Air”, Bel = beautiful and Air = Sky. Beautiful sky = heaven. Also, Uncle Phil is a judge in heaven and is why he keeps kicking Jazz out (out of heaven).
Yeah we know, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air isn’t a cartoon. But it was too good of a theory to leave it out of our top ten list. The theory maybe a little farfetched, but it blows the mind to think about.
7. Dexter’s Lab Theory: It’s all Imaginary
The Theory: Dexter’s Lab never existed and was simple made up by Dexter as a way to escape reality.
The Evidence: To start with Dexter had a lab in his own home that his parents never knew about. His electricity bill would have been through the roof. His lab dimensions would have never fit in his house dimensions. And have you also wondered why Dexter always spoke with an accent and no one else in his family did?
More you think about this theory the more it makes sense. A boy at his age would be more than capable of being able to imagine such things that happened in daily episodes.
6. Inspector Gadget Theory: The Real Inspector Gadget
The Theory: Dr. Claw is in fact the real life version of Inspector Gadget.
The Evidence: More you think about it more you realise that Inspector Gadget is essentially RoboCop – the two are pretty identical. You think of Inspector Gadget as a guy who was in an accident and his body parts were married with computer parts to create what we all know as Inspector Gadget.
But what if Inspector Gadget is actually a clone of a real inspector who was in an accident, but the real life inspector is still alive? What then if this inspector – who was deformed due to an accident – vowed for revenge on the clone who took his place? Could Dr. Claw be the real Inspector Gadget? That would make sense why you never see Dr. Claw’s real face.
We were never a huge fan of the Inspector Gadget cartoon, but we cannot help but like this theory of the show. It would make an awesome movie one day where they could unveil this secret at the very end.
5. The Rugrats Theory: Figment of Angelica’s Imagination
The Theory: None of the babies in The Rugrats were real apart from Angelica and were all a part of her imagination.
The Evidence: Chuckie passed away a long time ago which is the reason why his father, Chaz, is always jumpy all the time. Tommy apparently died at birth which explains why his father, Stu, is a creator of baby toys in his basement. And Phil and Lil are part of the same person – Their mother had an abortion so Angelica created twins inside her head as she didn’t know the sex of the baby.
Susie was actually Angelica’s therapist (young, we know) who went along with the imagination of the babies to help Angelica’s progress. And Angelica’s doll, Cynthia, is supposed to be a representation of Angelica’s mother.
We guess this would make sense why Angelica is able to communicate between adults and babies, but we can imagine the creators of The Rugrats wouldn’t build a “children’s cartoon” on such a theory, would they?
4. Ed, Edd n Eddy Theory: Kids of the Cul-De-Sac are Dead
The Theory: The cul-de-sac where everyone lives (current time) is part of cursed grounds where each child in the cartoon died at one stage in time. It now serves a purpose of the dead children living in a purgatory of an eternal childhood.
The Evidence: Have you ever wondered why you never seem to see any grownups in Ed, Edd n Eddy? Have you also noticed that the cartoon characters’ tongues are always different colour as if to represent decaying bodies?

3. SpongeBob Squarepants Theory: Radiation
The Theory: The show SpongeBob Squarepants is based on the result of radiation from nuclear arms testing.
The Evidence: In the late ’40s and early ’50s nuclear arms testing was performed on the Bikini Atoll. In the show SpongeBob Squarepants their town is called Bikini Bottom due to them living under the atoll. And the reason they can all talk is due to them interacting with the radiation.
This can then be backed up due to one of the writer of the show being a former marine biologist.
Out of all the cartoon conspiracy theories we have come across we think the SpongeBob theory is the one that’s the most plausible.
2. Rocko’s Modern Life Theory: Most Perverted Cartoon Ever?
The Theory: A cartoon aimed at kids was based around adult humour and was perverted.
The Evidence: When you watch a cartoon such as South Park you expect to hear adult-based humour as the show is aimed at adults. But you don’t expect such language and innuendos from a cartoon aimed at children such as Rocko’s Modern Life.
Rocko and Hefer always ate a restaurant called “Chokey’s Chicken” which in the last season all of a sudden became “Chewy’s Chicken” because they could not get away with it any longer.
4. When Rocko would visit Hefer (who lived with a pack of wolves), Hefer’s father would always yell out “Let’s eat the beaver!!!” (Referring to Rocko, who was a wallaby).
Do you believe the humour was intentional or not? You have to think it was a cartoon on Nickelodeon and a certain theory believes it was intentional.
1. Courage the Cowardly Dog: A Normal Dog
The Theory: Courage is actually a normal dog.
The Evidence: If you have seen an episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog then you will know it’s not as child friendly as its cartoon counterparts. But a theory suggests the cartoon isn’t as scary at second glance as Courage is actually a normal dog.
He believes he lives in the middle of nowhere as he has never experienced nothing in the real world due to his owners being too frail to walk him. He then thinks he sees villains and other paranoia due to him being a dog – which represents dogs being scared of people and unfamiliar surroundings.
A plausible conspiracy theory if you ask us. It makes sense and it’s simple.
Please take these theories at face value. The cartoon writers are probably not twisted enough to base their cartoons on such plots. The theories are just a way to make you think what if, if anything and are mainly cartoon fan theories. But sorry for ruining your childhood after you give a few a read. You’re welcome!
